Oh So British Our Story

I always wanted to create something, i just didn't know what, then came along the idea for Oh So British and there was no stopping.

Two years ago, I made the decision to stop building someone else’s dream and start building my own.

Like many people starting a business, I had no idea exactly what I wanted to sell, I just knew I wanted to create something that celebrated everything I love about Britain: quality craftsmanship, local producers and products made with care.

The journey began with a 12 week marketing bootcamp. One of the first challenges was choosing a business name. I wanted something simple, memorable and impossible to misspell. When I discovered that both the ohsobritish.co.uk and ohsobritish.com domains were available, it felt like fate. Oh So British was born.

At first, I had no products—just determination. I spotted a confectionery business for sale for £350,000 and remember thinking, I can do that myself. So I registered with Environmental Health, developed my own recipes, completed all the food safety paperwork, and began making artisan fudge from scratch.

My original plan was to sell only at events, but on a whim I contacted Bridgnorth Market. They happened to have a pitch available, and that one email changed everything.

From Bridgnorth came regular markets, food festivals and events, including Ludlow Market and the famous Ludlow Food Festival. As the business grew, so did my ideas. I began creating alcohol infused confectionery including our very much loved Rum & Raisin Fudge and that naturally led to our liqueur collection. Soon afterwards came our British inspired skincare and fragrance ranges, carefully chosen to reflect the same quality and character as our food products.

This year, while on holiday, I stumbled across a beautiful business for sale in Shrewsbury Market Hall. The moment I walked through the door after returning home, I knew it was exactly where I wanted Oh So British to be. It felt like the next chapter had found me.

The shop has also allowed me to embrace another passion I’ve had for years crochet and knitting.

I’ve always loved crafting, but I’ve also experienced the frustration of buying cheap kits with poor-quality yarn that splits apart and hooks that make learning difficult. I don’t want other people to have that experience. My aim is to help more people discover how relaxing, creative and rewarding crochet and knitting can be by offering quality supplies, beginner friendly kits and a welcoming place to learn.

Today, Oh So British is much more than a confectionery business. It’s a celebration of British creativity, craftsmanship and independent makers. Whether you’re buying artisan fudge, a beautiful fragrance, handmade gifts or picking up your first crochet hook, every product has been chosen with the same philosophy:

Buy better. Shop British where possible. Support small businesses. And create something that brings a little joy.

Thank you for being part of our journey. This is only the beginning.
